Below you’ll find answers to some of the most common questions about how our editing process works, what to expect at each stage and how we support you in preparing your manuscript for submission or publication.

Providing quotes / estimates

Estimates: To give a reasonable estimate for editing or proofreading, we need to see as much of your work as possible. We do not charge to provide an estimate.

Quotes: A firm quote requires a more in-depth assessment.

For writing over 10,000 words, we can provide a firm quote after completing a Sample Edit.

What can affect pricing?

These will usually be factors that affect the proofreading/editing time, including:

First drafts - these are rarely ready for proofreading
Complex structures, e.g., quotes, footnotes, nested subheadings, captions, tables
Inconsistent formatting
Low or poor literacy and SPAG
Shorter submission deadline (<2 weeks)

Why do we provide a range?

Complex writing takes a while to read, while straightforward writing with few errors takes less time to correct. This means that proofreading prices are broadly based on the time the work will take, ensuring you always pay a fair price for what your work needs.

Payment flexibility

We require a 50% deposit to secure the service.

Alternatively, we’re happy to arrange a pay-in-3 payment plan - just ask!

What is the editing process?

Our editing services are managed through a structured yet flexible process designed to keep projects clear, collaborative and on track. Each engagement begins with a requirements-gathering and client goal-setting session to align on objectives, scope and readiness. This is followed by a review or update workshop to discuss progress, address feedback and refine direction as needed. The process concludes with a handover and sign-off workshop, ensuring clarity, confidence and agreement before the manuscript moves to its next stage.
